The IO Foundation
Science & Tech
The IO Foundation (TIOF) is a for-impact NGO advocating for Data-Centric Digital Rights to establish a more solid approach from a technical standards perspective and to raise awareness on the critical role of programmers as the next generation of Human and Digital Rights defenders.

We hope to explore new platforms to reach out to citizens who are concerned about the future of digital spaces and move forward the necessary changes the industry requires.

The importance of human rights protection in the use of digital technologies cannot be understated anymore. Almost every day, we hear stories of how the lack of governance mechanisms in tech companies result in the misuse and abuse of users’ data. In Malaysia, recent revelations about a government-mandated COVID-19 surveillance app had sparked conversations around data protection, data ownership and the right to privacy in the age of digital technologies.

This is one of the many ways that human rights respect is relevant to the technology sector. As advocates and proponents of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human rights (BHR), we foresee the necessity for a Data-Centric approach to protecting our data to ensure the Rights of our Digital Twins in the digital are as protected as we are in the analogue.

In other words, what are the Rights that need to exist (but not yet) to protect ourselves from the potential harms of digital technologies?

Be part of the conversation and share in the knowledge!

Paris Peace Forum 2022

Our Founder & CEO Jean F. Queralt was invited to participate at the Paris Peace Forum 2022.

Though his intervention was brief because of time constrains at The IO Foundation we always want to make the case for the need to bring technologists into policy conversations as they are the #NextGenRightsDefenders
